It's been a long time, and things are always changing, so for now this page has shrunk to nothing. We will be adding information about the current U59 third generation ECU and all the new models its covers (including Hypermotard)...

As the U59 ECU has developed we have introduced new high-level tweaking equipment for realtime tuning. This includes a CAN-line realtime software package and a 'Slew Box' or Pot Box which allows instant adjustment of Base fuel, rear cylinder fuel, injector phase, spark advance, and spark dwell. These parameters are shown on screen and can be 'grabbed' using the slew box and adjusted. The base file is loaded into the software and shows the throttle and rpm breaks points in sliding windows, so that the load points can be maintained during adjustments. Two channels of linearised Lambda are also shown onscreen along with pre-defined lambda (air-fuel) targets for each specific breakpoint in the map. Once parameters are optimised the Store button updates the relevant maps and allows file downloads of the stored information later.

We have also updated the 'static' mapping program for the U59 to include many extra parameters not usually available to the end-tuner. These include injector phase, temperature trims, RPM and Throttle breakpoints, Fan switching points, Rev limiter and more.

UltiMap® U59 ECU Update

SOON TO BE UPDATED.. We've now been selling our U59 ECU for 18 months and we cover most current model Ducatis. These models include: The G2 (Generation 2) U59 carries the CAN bus technology used on the 999/749 models to operate the dash, but does not yet work with the idle stepper-motor models (Multistrada) or those with a fuel guage on the dash (Multistrada, ST3, ST4S 04).

We have started testing on 999S and R models and will finalise these maps soon.

Test Results with U59 ECU

A 2002 model ST4S had slipon mufflers fitted, and then the cams were dialled to factory spec. The throttle position and idle air bleeds were all set to factory settings, and a base run performed with the stock ECU. We then mapped our ECU for optimum performance with the airbox lid both on and off. We now have 2 maps to suit these configurations.

With the standard airbox our U59 ECU delivered an extra 7 HP at 7400 RPM, and from 3 to 6 HP from 4000 to 10,600 RPM !

With the Airbox lid removed our U59 ECU delivered an extra 11HP at 7400 RPM, and from 6 to 10 HP from 5000 to 10000 RPM.

This is not to mention the extra 600 revs available at the top (fully programmable rev limit).

UltiMap® FlashLoads for Ducati 900ss & Guzzi V11 Sport

Now your dealer can download our UltiMap tunes into the Weber 1.5M ECU. This is used on Ducati 900ss, 750ss, Monster 900ie, and Guzzi V11 Sport, Cali, and Quota models. Our maps offer similar improvement to the Ultimap Eproms for older ECU types, but with these added benefits:

This program works in the following way: The PC is connected to the bike's ECU via a hardware key and the bike's diagnostic 3-pin connector. The hardware key plugged into the back of the PC allows downloads when a one-off security code is entered. These codes can be purchased either one at a time, or in larger quantities, allowing the dealer to download the latest maps from our website, and then program these into customer bikes. The money-back guarantee is still possible, because if the customer is not happy then the dealer can re-load the original map into the ECU, and the one-off code is re-credited. Each hardware key is supplied with 100 access codes, so the dealer need only buy the Flashload software once, and then have access to up to 100 downloads into customer bikes.

The maps themselves are independant of the download access code, so the dealer can access the latest maps without needing to re-stock the product, which is the case for our UltiMap Eproms.

The UltiMap® M15 Mapper

This program (supplied as part of the Ultimap Diagnostics Package) allows you to customise FlashLoad Map files used on Weber 1.5M ECUs (as fitted to Ducati 900ss, 750ss, Monster 900ie, Guzzi V11 Sport, Cali, and Quota.) You can change the Base Fuel Map, the Fuel Correction Map, and the Spark Map, all with 3D visual feedback.

You can also change the Rev Limiter or reset it to stock. The files are saved independantly of our Ultimap Flashload files and may be securely Flashloaded in to 1.5M ECUs without others gaining access to your tuning secrets.

New company name / Price confusion

Fuel Injected Motorcycles is now UltiMap Pty.Ltd. We have changed our name to improve our brand recognition. We still own the name FIM and we will continue to use it in some situations. We also own the registered trademark of UltiMap.

Price confusion.

Our retail prices are roughly identical world-wide. Many people email us, or our distributors, with the illusion that our UltiMap eproms cost AUD $115.00 in Australia. This is not true !!! We sell two families of eproms, our remapped (and vastly improved ) UltiMaps, and our Megazones (which are simply adjustable versions of original factory maps). Our Megazones are considerably cheaper than UltiMaps, and in the past they have sold for $115 in Australia, but they do not offer the performance improvements of UltiMaps, even though they are adjustable.

Both our Megazones and our UltiMaps are adjustable with the same equipment, and to the same extent, but the UltiMaps are better because the base maps are better. Approximate retail price world wide is USD 180.00 or equivalent.

Testing Times

Most of 2004 has been spent testing our U59 on as many models as possible, so we haven't done any further BMW or Aprilia applications. See above for current U59 application list.

Lambda Meters

We are frequently asked for advice on purchasing a Lambda Meter (Exhaust Oxygen). We use Motec and Corsetec equipment which is expensive but reliable, accurate, and most of all, repeatable. These systems use the Bosch Motorsport LSM11 sensor which is now both aged and expensive. A new generation of Lambda meters based around the Bosch LSU4 sensor are now available, many (such as the Dynojet Lambda Commander) at low cost. The LSU4 probes are also very inexpensive at around USD 85 each , compared to USD 340 for the LSM11 probes.

We are undertaking testing of various LSU4 systems to establish which we can use and recommend to our customers.

Ducati 996 Biposto 1998/9/2000

We have two UltiMaps for the 996 Biposto '99/2000 model. There have been many problems with these models spitting on low throttle or cruise at low speeds. We have finally made a chip which cures the problem (type UM222), but requires that one injector be disconnected from each cylinder. This is because the 996 has two injectors hard-wired in the harness and we can't switch one off like we can with the 996SPS or early 888 computers. The benefit is that the single injector spits more cleanly at low durations than two injectors do ( because they have only half the time each) and idle and low throttle repsonse is heaps better. We remapped a 996 with this mod and the difference is incredible. We do sell a twin injector version of the same chip (type UM221), but in most cases the UM222 works better, and is worth the effort.

Discontinued Products and price list update

We no longer make the Ultimap Engine Manager, a product which piggybacks on original ECUs. We have a better solution for Ducati models with our U59 ECU, and we do not have time for development of the UEM with other models.

Where do we get all these bikes to test?

We only produce remapped products for bikes we have actually tested and improved, so before you ask "do you have something for ...", ask yourself, "should I have my own bike tested?". If you live in the east side of Australia, and are prepared to let us test the bike, you'll get a perfect result for your configuration ! Be aware though: If this all sounds too hard, now you know why we sometimes have a delay in making new products for recently released bikes. We need the right test bike. If you think your bike is a candidate, let us know!
